We have recently had an EPIC update that has changed our workflow across all our ambulatory areas. Basically all orders placed by RN are now pending until provider signs, making discharge cumbersome as AVS will not contain relevant information.

Anynone else experiencing this? Have any advice?

We have made the same change.

It is especially hard for some specialties (ortho, cardiology, urogyn stc.).

We have carved out some exceptions, and expanded what we consider POCT, to not impact the workflow too much.

We also provided a lot of education and resources in the 8 weeks leading up to the change.

Interested to hear what others are doing as well.

Hmm, we use EPIC as well but I don't believe we have experienced this yet. Is there a difference in the order mode used when placing the order? For the most part, our RNs only place orders under a caregiver-initiated protocol, and in those instances the order is routed to the provider to sign but is not pended or held up.  Can you give an example of the types of orders the RN is writing in place of the provider?

Every order- meds, labs, referrals, wound care orders, patient instructions are held until signed by provider. Unable to input any information onto AVS for distribution to a Home care Nurse, LTC facility or patient until provider Signs and then RN inputs onto AVS.
