Have any of you carried out a survey to assess nurse interest in becoming a preceptor and identifying barriers to being a preceptor in ambulatory setting? Or do you have any articles that cover this topic? We are hoping to assess this at my organization and I would appreciate and guidance on this. Thank you!

What we do is vet the potential preceptors with the manager, charge nurses and the QI team before reaching out to the nurse to see if interested.  If any naysayers I won't approach the nurse.  Then I have a 4 hour training that is required and we have a community of practice meeting bi-monthly to share best practices ect.

    Connie,

thank you so much for your response! I'm curious about the required 4 hour training. Is it an internally built training or do you have a specific training program you use for this? I've been looking into the preceptor guide AAACN provides but I am interested in whether there are other resources being utilized to develop preceptor trainings.

    Thank you again for sharing!
