There has been a recent question about infection control in the physician offices. As part of the offices environmental cleaning practice do you disinfect environmental surfaces in between patients?

Yes, infection control practices are to wipe down chairs, exam table (paper or no paper used), desk/computer table and keyboard (with appropriate cleaning product) and any exam tools used that touch the patient. We used the wipes that were good for all the cooties.

If the patient did not remove their bottoms, we rip off the table paper they sat on and wipe down any equipment used or surfaces they may have touched (BP cuff, etc). We use peroxide wipes generally and bleach wipes for CDiff or other organisms not susceptible to peroxide.
If a PAP or other procedure was performed then we would wipe the table. We still use the table paper in all cases so this is a quick wipe since the table is mostly covered.
At the end of each day, table paper is left off and nursing wipes the entire table top with peroxide and wipes down all the BP cuffs, thermometers etc. Table paper is left off overnight. Nursing is responsible for the inside of exam table drawers.
Our janitors are to do a full bleach clean of exam tables (tops, sides, etc.) once a week followed by a rinse.
