  • 1.  Orientation for travel Medical Assistants

Hello. Our organization is looking at hiring travel Medical Assistants (through travel agencies). They will likely be 13 week contracts. I am wondering if anyone has and feedback about the hospital onboarding and orientation process for travel Medical Assistants. I am one of the Ambulatory Educators and will be helping with the onboarding process. Any feedback or advice would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks,

    Lindsay

    Lindsay,
Our traveler MAs are enrolled in the usual general onboarding process all the way through the course that gets them their Epic access. After that, they are shifted to the clinic where they will be practicing. We provide the same onboarding materials with a few small differences:
    • Their welcome letter instructs them that the full packet represents the knowledge/skills that are expected of them during their time at our organization. It also instructs them to go to a core staff member for anything in the packet that is an area where they need additional information.
    • Rather than checkboxes for every skill, we changed them to bullet points. The final page is their signature page stating that they had ample opportunity to seek additional info from core staff.
Because we transition them right after Epic, they are in their clinic about halfway through their second day at the organization.
    I hope this helps.
