Pediatric IV hydration in ambulatory care?

    Hello AAACN members,

Any organizations out there provide IV hydration to your pediatric age group? In efforts to avoid sending our potentially dehydrated peds patients to the ED or Hospital, we would like to consider IV hydration when ORT is a challenge or unsuccessful for some of these poor kiddos. Most of the data and research around this topic point to offering ORT as the first line of defense then send out to hospital (children's if nearby) if ORT is unsuccessful.

Up-To-Date has good information on ORT versus IVF, and only able to retrieve 1 article from AAP regarding this topic but would love to learn more. Especially if you have information on IVF in ambulatory care for pediatric patients.

Curious if your organization does offer IV hydration to this age group and if so, what resources/competency/guidelines/protocols do you have (have used) to implement this treatment option?

Thank you in advance for your time, I appreciate all and any comments/info you may share.

    Respectfully,
    Luiza Trahan, MN, RN
