    Does anyone know what body presides over the scope of a CNA?   
    Who defines the scope of a CMA?

    Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.

    In my state the CNA is covered by our board of nursing. NA I is certified through our DHHS but their task list is provided by our Board of Nursing. The BON is the group that certifies the NA II and also provides their task list. 

    Medical Assistants do not have a large governing body and many do not have rules or regulations by the state. In my state, the BON considers the role unlicensed personnel (same with a CNA) in regards to delegation. Your state medical board may also have information (there is a small amount for my state but not as much as I'd like).

    For the Certified Medical Assistant, the gold standard is the CMA (AAMA) certification through the American Association of Medical Assistants. I've used their exam outline to assist with scope boundaries, and our local community college uses the same content in their program development. Another good spot to check is the core curriculum from the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).

    In Colorado the Board of Nursing is over CNA's, and if anyone is over MA's it'd be the Board of Medicine since they are unlicensed but do their activities via medical delegation.

    For Certified and non-certified medical assistants, the Medical Board of California outlines their scope since they function under the license and supervision of a practitioner.
