    Hi Everyone,

I am in the process of assessing a gap regarding basic dysrhythmia training for ambulatory nurses that do remote telemetry monitoring and rhythm interpretation (EKGs, Stress tests etc.). Has anyone been investigating this type of work or aware of any programs targeted to our ambulatory population? My literature search has not been fruitful.

    Thank You,

    Hi Jillian –

I previously worked in a cardiology practice and conducted treadmill and chemical stress tests.  My training for that role included completing ACLS certification, which office RNs accessed through our affiliated hospital's education program.  ACLS doesn't provide specific training on the nuances of interpreting stress test ECGs, so that was learned in an unstructured format (on-the-job training basically) from preceptor and providers.

The ambulatory RNs that conducted cardiac stress tests were also required to complete the same annual competency on ECG interpretation that the hospital floor nurses were assigned.  Again, it was not tailored to stress test ECG interpretation, but very worthwhile.
