  • 1.  Annual Goals for Ambulatory Clinical Staff

    Posted 01-25-2023 12:21
    Good afternoon all,

As our organization approaches Mid-Year reviews, I've asked my staff to come up with 3 measurable goals. There has been some struggles coming up with some. I've told them i can help them, but wanted to reach out to see if anyone or organization has goals that they use for their ambulatory MA's and LPN's. Any information would be appreciated!

    Thanks,

    Melanie

    Hi,
I am from a FQHC, so much of the incoming revenue is grant related, as we provide care at no cost to many of our patients or for like $10 no matter what we did in the visit...  Part of one of the grants we receive is tied to Quality Metrics.  Such as cervical, colon, breast cancer screening rates.  It is a win win, because our patients are getting the preventative screenings while at the same time we are getting grant money based on our numbers..... So one goal we use is if that team is lagging in lets say colorectal cancer screenings, we will set a goal that they will strive to get ...... of colorectal cancer screening orders in.  I say orders in, because it is ultimately up to the patient to follow through with the screening....

Another one we utilize fairly often is a growth goal.  Such as a team member who always works in our Medication Assisted Treatment environment, branching out and stretching their comfort zone and learning OB.  I love these growth goals.

Lastly, we have to complete our in house service orders in the chart in order to be able to bill for those services.  So if this person in consistently on the list of forgetting to zero them by the end of the shift, we will make a goal around that.

I know my current title is training, but I was a Clinic Practice Manager for 3 years.. and this is what we worked on...

We moved to merit based performance evaluations this year so built guidelines for supervisors to use that is inclusive of quality metrics. We allow the clinic to select whatever quality goal is important to their practice. I have attached what we have drafted. We plan to use these guidelines this year and then make any changes based on feedback after PEs are completed. The MA guideline still needs work as we have not built the measures for the last Major Job Responsibility (MJR). We plan to add additional measures on the RN guideline so that every RN job title will be covered and then supervisors can use the document like a menu and only select the MJRs that are applicable to the particular job title.  We typically hold the staff accountable to one quality goal and one patient experience goal.

    Hi Patty,

This is very comprehensive. Are you with a large ambulatory center? Thank you for sharing.

    Hi Melanie,
I manage a small clinic. The RNs are required to have one professional development goal, for example ,obtain certification, membership on a committee, PCDA project , perhaps further their education, become a safety coach, take on charge nurse responsibilities .

This year we will have two departmental goals, one for the registration staff and one for the clinic staff. For example the goal for the business associates may be to achieve 98% on registration audits.

The goal for the clinic staff may revolve around vaccines or medication scanning compliance

Last year on of my goals was to decrease work place injury .
