Subject: Bed Bugs Protocol
Hello,
We don't have a specific bed bug policy for the ambulatory care setting. I have attached an excerpt from our facility integrated pest management program.
I am aware that the ED uses a bed bug oven, but don't I don't know much about it.
Areas that have potential to lend to an inpatient admission (ED & mental health) ask the following screening questions:
- Have you stayed in a place where you think you may have been exposed to bed bugs in the past there months?
- Has anyone in your family been bitten by bed bugs or do they have bites or blisters that you're concerned about?
- Bed bugs, lice, scabies, and other things can cause medical concerns. Do you need help with a bed bug, or any other pest issue?
Best wishes,
cam

We unfortunately have seen a huge increase in the patients we are seeing with Bed bugs in our area - our protocol is extremely vague and outdated and I am wondering if any other ambulatory care clinics have a specific protocol for their clinics that includes cleaning/treatment of rooms, protocol for "identifying patients" who are frequently infested, documentation, etc ... any and all help would be greatly appreciated!!
Our state website has some great resources for "identifying" but is not much help when it comes to the ambulatory care clinics/settings - thanks all!
