Does anyone have a centralized medication prior authorization model? Meaning a medication is ordered; if it needs a prior auth, it would be routed to a central team to complete. We are investigating the possibilities of building a team.

    Hi Barry,

We have a couple different groups that obtain prior authorizations.  If it is an infusion they will be receiving here at Michigan Medicine, the Michigan Infusion scheduling team (MIST) group will obtain the PA and schedule the patient for their infusion.    Michigan Medicine has  also recently implemented a specialty pharmacy group (team) that will obtain PA's for certain Rheumatology medications as this rolls out and a pharmacy Technician (team) that will handle the medications that our specialty pharmacy does not.  Once the PA is obtained the Rheumatology nurses are notified so we can then follow up on any pre-labs needed or enrollment into lab monitoring.  I hope this is helpful.

    Hi Barry,
My company is just starting to look into this as well.  I was not aware this was an option until I read about it on CovermyMeds.  I have not been able to find another resource that assists with finding a program that works with eCW or current EHR.  I would appreciate any resources that you have found.  Apologies I cant be of assistance.

We transitioned to SureScipes in February.  PA flow through workques  to individual clinic or a care coordination pool  to complete.
