Good morning,
I currently manage a registered nurse triage line and telemedicine program. We use Schmitt Thompson Clinical Content protocols, for both the adult and pediatric nursing scope of practice. Can anyone help answer some of the following concerns we have as we continue to move forward and expand the program:
- For pediatric patients calling the triage line, is the nurse suppose to ask for their guardian/parent's consent? or are we able to perform a phone triage assessment within the pediatric nursing scope of practice using the pediatric protocols?
- If the pediatric patient is asking about STI's how does that work?
- I know that if the pediatric patient is pregnant, then they are to be handled as an adult, to which their health information can be protected from the legal guardians/parents if that what they choose correct?
I am also going to raise this to our compliance department, but these have been key questions we have discussed in huddles over the past 3 years, building and growing the organizations first telehealth department.
Any feedback would be great, as I am still learning all these important details.
Thank you.
