  • 1.  Home BP monitoring workflow/protocol

    Hi

I'm looking for a home blood pressure monitoring workflow or protocol. (Not ambulatory BP monitoring which involves continuously wearing a device for a day or more.)  I'm unclear on the  recommended number of days and number of times a day the patient should take their BP. Do you throw out values from the first day prior to averaging? Seems like there is quite a bit of variation in recommendations.  Any thoughts on where to enter the average BP into EPIC would also be good.

    Thanks in advance.

I would highly recommend you look at the AMA program. We use quite a bit of their training material for patients and staff.

We also have a Home BP Flowsheet that we use in Epic.

I would recommend that American Heart Association Toolkit as a reference. You will find comprehensive guidelines as well as algorithms for management, frequency of checks and recommended follow ups.

Thanks for the tips.  The AMA is great resource and there are some good videos on the American Heart in Spanish.

We also use a Home BP flowsheet in Epic for tracking these readings.
