  • 1.  Increasing Patient Utilization of MyChart

    Posted 02-06-2023 12:43
    Hello,
I am in a workgroup with the goal of increasing patient participation in MyChart. I would first like to benchmark what the current patient usage is in relation to total patient volume. My second question is if anyone has done a campaign to increase patient sign up and utilization. Thank you in advance for any information that you can share.

    Allison,

Our organization did a mass text blast to all patients in the system with a cell phone to start. They also did a mass mailing of letters to all addresses in the system.  We also promote during the check-in process at visits. We train our MAs to ask about MyChart and have multiple ways to help the patient sign up in real time right through the Epic system. Oh! and the pharmacies promote signing up as well promoting an easier way to get refills and renewals without the hassle of calling. Hope this helps.

    Hi, Allison:
Our organization did about the same as Quiana, but not the text blast.  When a patient calls to schedule an appointment, the scheduler invites them to sign up.  Then when they arrive for the appointment, the desk clerk checks if they signed up and if not, invite them to sign up - even helping them if needed.  When the MA rooms the patient, he/she also reminds them of the MyChart advantages, and again, will help patient sign up.

Our nursing staff communicates with the patient, during the rooming process, on the MyChart utilization and advantages to having this tool for themselves. We can also verify their Mychart status while in their record and send the code to set it up in one easy mouse click or two, if it hasn't been sent or their status is pending, resend the code to them during intake process

I recognize this response is a bit delayed.  We also partnered with our inpatient unit to have them push the sign up on discharge.  This allowed a conversation about why it would be easy to connect that way.
