  • 1.  LVN inspection of emergency equipment?

    Posted 08-29-2023 15:08

    Hello,

Do your organizations allow LVNs/LPNs to perform daily/weekly checks on crash carts and manual defibrillators (including defibrillation and pacer testing)?

    Thank you,

Yes, our LPNs do daily checks for our crash carts. We do not run testing on our AEDs we have in clinic besides ensuring the battery is working and we have multiple pad sizes.

This mirrors our practice as well.  Some of our clinics don't have an RN, and either the RN or LPN can verify emergency supplies.  Our policy calls for a 'licensed caregiver'. Cart checks include verifying battery on the AED, portable oxygen level and presence of required medications and supplies.
