Medical assistant role delineation/scope of practice

  • 1.  Medical assistant role delineation/scope of practice

    Posted 04-25-2024 09:31

Hello! I am hoping that members would share documents related to  the medical assistant's role. I have seen some role deliniation /scope of practice documents that are useful. If your organization has anything around this and are willing to share it would be much appreciated.

    Hello Tracy,

Our organization has a "Matrix" that breaks down the role and what procedures they can do. If you send me your email address, I'll forward it to you.

It will depend on your state Laws. AAMA supports the local state chapters to post what the scope would be based on the laws. For example, this is what they have for Michigan - Scope of Practice – Michigan Society of Medical Assistants (msmaonline.org)

    Tracy.

I am from the KP in Southern California, and we have a Scope of Practice Grid for MAs, LVNs (LPN) and RNs. We also have an MA playbook that talks about the role.

    I hope this helps.

Let me know if you have questions.

We have a practice guideline in our governing policy.  We are in Washington state- so some of the MA scopes may vary state to state.

In case this hasn't already been poster:

I don't know if this will help, but the Washington State Board of Nursing has a document comparing scope of practice between Licensed Practical Nurses and the various levels of credentialed Medical Assistants practicing in Washington State.
