  • 1.  Medication Dispensing in Ambulatory

I would greatly appreciate your assistance in answering the following 2 questions:
    1.  Do you use a pyxis or medication dispensing system in your ambulatory setting?
    2.  If yes, is the machine profiled requiring the patient to be arrived and medication(s) ordered to be able to pull and administer the medication?

    Thank you for your assistance.

We are looking into this as well for our clinics and wondering if smaller organizations have tried it.

    Michaele,

At Metrohealth, most of our ambulatory clinics use a pyxis and the patient is automatically loaded just in case they need meds when they arrive. We have some smaller areas that do not have a pyxis also but all medications have have to be ordered before administration. Hope this helps you.
