  • 1.  Methotrexate for Ectopic Pregnancy

    Hi everyone,

    Does anyone have a specific competency for administering methotrexate for ectopic pregnancy, or do your nurses go through the training for chemotherapy administration? Our chemo class is a full 8-hour day and contains a lot of information that wouldn't be relevant to a single IM injection, so I anticipate push-back with implementing this as a requirement. I want to benchmark against other institutions.

    We have done a simplified training with NIOSH recommendations with our clinical pharmacy and Environmental Health Team to ensure yearly competency. We do it yearly and have incorporated it within our learning modules system.

    Hello, our organization created a 3-part training, which includes an ONS course, our organization's Hazardous medication training and an EB competency validation in our LMS for Methotrexate administration for ectopic pregnancy. The RNs administering the methotrexate competency is validated by one of our oncology RN educators.
