Hi everyone, redesigning our practices' RN onboarding process and orientation checklists. Trying to utilize my AAACN references as much as possible, but wondering if anyone has a checklist they'd be willing to share that encompasses our core competencies, KSAs, and scope. Really want to make this meaningful and evidence based. Thank you!

Hi Kimberly, do you have the Orientation and Competency resource from AAACN? This has several sample checklists in the back of it. Some are a bit dated, though. It does a really nice job of laying out all the core competencies and pointed needed to assess competency in all those areas. It is a really wonderful resource. I also recommend the preceptor program guide to ensure your preceptors are getting what they need to give new hires a thorough onboarding.

Hi! 

I am new to all of this so this might be silly, but where can I find all of this information? I am currently the supervisor of several clinics but an RN myself and trying to implement a new role for an ambulatory care nurse. I am trying to do a justification and all that jazz. Any help would be appreciated.

You can get all the resources in AAACN's online store. They are available in print or web, but I find the web versions hard to use. The store is here: https://go.aaacn.org/s/

There is also a link at the top of the main AAACN website for "Practice Resources." The scope and standards are there, the core competencies, and specific resources for roles like telehealth and care management.
