Does anyone allow patients with a PIV to be discharged home from clinic/infusion with a PIV in place specifically if they are a difficult stick, have infusions on subsequent days, etc?

I would say a huge no for safety reasons. There is a risk of infection and risk of patients injecting things themselves.

Our institution allows for a PIV to be maintained for multiple appointments in different locations on campus within a singular day, however, it must be removed within the same day as insertion.
