We are seeking best practices related to follow-up scheduling for PIV extravasations that have occurred in either the inpatient setting or infusion setting. What process do you use to ensure these patients are identified as needing to be seen in a specific timeframe (i.e. 3 weeks post extravasation). Do you have an alert that fires in the EHR to identify these patients. Do you use a referral process? We are going to be doing follow-up on these patients in our Burn clinic; however, we don't have a standard way of identifying patients with extravasations so schedulers may not schedule the visit within the 3-week time frame.
