  • 1.  Referrals, how many contacts

    Posted 25 days ago

    Hi,

Do you have a standard for how many patient "contacts" your staff makes to ensure that a patient receives the MD's referral recommendation? Do you have a policy? Our clinics are doing different workflows and we want to standardize.

    Thanks!

    Hello,

We have a few different processes for this.

    1. If patient is notified of referral options via MyChart and they read it, we close the referral.
    2. If patient is notified of referral options via phone but we leave a message, we will attempt again and mail a letter.
    3. If the referred to entity is known, we call that entity and check on the referral. If they received it and have made contact with patient, we close the referral. If they have not been able to connect with the patient, we attempt.

    I hope this helps!
