Does anyone have and statistics on how many messages their RNs are able to manage in an 8 hours shift and what type of messages you manage.  I know I heard a great after-hours presentation in our AAACN community but I can't find that information. Thank you for your help.

I am also interested in this information. Triage calls and in basket messages continue to increase daily.

Please send me any information you may have to help me adequately staff my department.

    Good morning,

We had a Community Live Call centered around Managing Provider In-basket messages last March.
You can find the recording and slide deck in the Open Forum Community Library/Community Live/Managing In-Basket Messages

I hope this has some helpful information you're looking for,

    Hi Judith,

In an endocrinology clinic I used to manage with about 20k patients, our nurses answered an average of 2000 inbasket messages a month between 2-3 of them. If one of them was dedicated to inbasket only for a day, they could answer about 80 messages. We pulled this data for an inbasket optimization project that we worked on some months ago.

I manage a Cardiovascular clinic in a university setting and I have 6 RN's and an LPN that manage about 5,000 messages a month an on average the messages can take 15-20 minutes at a time depending on the complexity of the phone call.
