Subject: RE: Role of RNs in Opthamalogy Clinic
Hi,
I worked as an RN in an ophthalmology clinic for years, as well as the OR charge and eventually director for the ASC owned by the ophthalmologist. In the clinic, I was used for tasks unique to the scope of a RN - provide education on diabetic retinopathy, cataracts, glaucoma, and other common diagnoses, perform triage for symptom based calls, and also start IVs for contrast needed with fluorescein angiography. Hope this helps!

Subject: Role of RNs in Opthamalogy Clinic
I am trying to redefine and redesign the utilization of RNs in a large AMC Opthamalogy Clinic. Opthamalogy Technicians are used in most procedures with the RNs doing desktop work, including pre-authorizations and prescription renewals. Can anyone give me an idea of how the RN is best utilized in there experience?
Thanks so much!
