    Good morning,

The midwives and some OB providers are allowing our patients to self-swab to collect GYN specimens for GBS, GC-Chlamydia, etc..

It has been causing some chaos when our PCA's come into a room and find a specimen that isn't labeled in real time.

Is this being practiced in any of your facilities?

    Hi Tanya,

Our MAs or PCTs meet the patient at the door of the restroom or exam room to collect the specimen immediately after the patient is finished. They label the specimen right then with the patient in front of them before the patient leaves. Making sure that the specimen is labeled properly prior to the patient leaving is the goal.

    Thank you,

    Sarah
