  • 1.  Statistical methods/systems used in your quality initiatives

    Posted 09-20-2023 23:17

    Good evening!

Hope you are all doing well. Was hoping to discuss the topic of quality data sets and statistical methods/systems used in your quality initiatives?

Would you be willing to share what system/structures you have been successful with?

If you were creating a team that would be dedicated to working with Nurse Specialists in Quality for Ambulatory services, what roles would you add to support the team?

I am thinking that a project manager, statistician, and IT specialist dedicated to Quality would be some appropriate roles. ...

What roles/job titles support your institution's ambulatory services quality initiatives?

As always thank you for all your collaboration!

    Looking forward to any feedback

    Sincerely

    Kathy

Participation in a national database is a great start. National databases have these staff members to develop and delivery products to assist their clients on their quality improvement journeys. National databases have standardize definitions to ensure all users are collecting/submitting the data the same way. Simplifying the process to prioritize and target opportunities with clear, concise measurement and comparisons for overall performance at the system, facility and unit level. Several, including the one I work for, presented at monthly NSI SIG meeting and the recordings are available in the library.

A very powerful statistical tool used many facilities and encouraged by IHI are run charts and control charts. Run charts and control charts are used to monitor the stability of a process across time. The goal is to differentiate between common cause variation and special cause variation. Control charts can be created in Excel. IHI has a lot of great resources related to run and control charts.
