Ambulatory LPN Certification

    We are currently looking into eligible certifications for LPNs. In the academic medical center that I work for, LPNs are being brought back into the inpatient setting and we are trying to remain competitive with several incentives and opportunities for professional growth. Considering that a large number of LPNs work in the ambulatory setting, I wonder why LPNs are not eligible for the Ambulatory Nursing certification? What is everyone's thoughts on this?

    LPNs are valuable contributors in the Ambulatory setting, as well as Inpatient setting.  I agree, an Ambulatory certification for LPNs is worth exploring.

    I love the discussion on this topic! I wonder how we can best push this initiative forward for further discussion. I know there are some AAACN leaders in the forum; is anyone aware on how to tag them?

    I completely agree that LVNs should be eligible for the Ambulatory Nursing Certification!  It is very difficult to recruit LVNs in the Rural CBOC I work in, and believe any thing that may be able to help recruit and retain competent LVNs would be beneficial to the organization.

    I am not sure what the rationale is that they are not eligible?  LVns are an important part of PACT and they should be able to achieve certification in the area of specialty that they work in.

    I am interested in following this as well. Currently the ANCC administers the Ambulatory certification exam for RNs. I agree with the recommendation that AAACN should explore a certification for LPN/LVNs. I'll keep an eye out for continued responses to this chat.

    AAACN advocates for role expansion and definition of LVNs, MAs, NPs, and all practices in Ambulatory Care.  Certification in Ambulatory Care for LVN/LPNs would require a unique exam and most likely a Task Force, associated Position Statements and role descriptions.  Anyone willing to take that on? 

    Perhaps this might be a good discussion at the Conference Round Tables or Town Halls.

    yes please!!! we need something to recognize our LPNs.  There aren't really any good options for our ambulatory care LPNs.  We did find a certification for our receptionists and medical assistants but our LPNs are still lacking.

    We let them do the CHAA certification. This is mostly for our receptionists but we allow our medical assistants that do both roles to do this certification.
