Help Shape the Future of Ambulatory Care Nursing
AAACN is seeking members to serve as Chair, Co-Chair, and Task Force Members for the Licensed Professional Nurse (LPN)/ Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) Professional Development Task Force. This initiative will assess and advance the professional development needs of LPN/LVNs within the ambulatory care practice settings.
As ambulatory care practice settings grow in complexity-integrating preventative health, chronic disease management, telehealth, and interdisciplinary collaboration-LPN/LVNs play a vital role in access to and the delivery of care. This Task Force will explore strategies to strengthen LPN/LVN engagement, education, and recognition within AAACN, including the feasibility of micro-certification or board recognition pathways.
Members will develop a comprehensive report identifying LPN/LVN professional development needs, recommend targeted resources and mentorship models, and provide a feasibility analysis for certification or recognition programs. This work will advise AAACN to create inclusive opportunities that elevate all nursing roles in ambulatory care.
This work will shape pathways for LPN growth, recognition, and practice optimization, ensuring their contributions are fully supported and valued within ambulatory care practice settings. The task force work is expected to span 6 months, with members meeting regularly and collaborating closely with AAACN leadership and the Board Liaison.
We are looking for AAACN members to serve on this Task Force who have:
· Experience in education, workforce development, direct clinical practice and or oversight of the role (preferred)
· Ability to commit time to Task Force work (6-8 hours per month for approximately 6 months)
· Collaborative mindset and willingness to contribute to the analysis and recommendations.
Commitment:
· Timeframe: approximately 6 months from kickoff
· Meetings: virtual, with monthly progress reports

Qualifications for Chair include:
· LPN/LVN or RN licensure
· Experience in ambulatory care nursing
· Leadership experience (preferred)
