  • 1.  Fibroscan and MAs

    Posted 07-31-2025 16:09

    Hello,

Are there any clinics currently using the Fibroscan devices in their clinics?  Are you allowing MAs to use this device?  I've been emailing the CA medical board for clarification but it's been over a month and there's no reply since.  I've sent another follow up email.

Curious to know what other areas are using this in their areas and which staff are allowed to use them.

    Thank you,

We use it daily in the Gastroenterology clinic.  Our MA and LNA are both trained to use it.  As a RN I am also trained but I don't typically do it unless one of them aren't available.

    Good morning,

My clinic uses Fibroscan but only allows RNs to perform the testing and become certified.

    Kindest Regards,

We have one that is used for our Hepatitis patients.  The MAs set it up, position the patient, and clean and disinfect the device.  The LIPs are the ones who perform the scans.

    Hello,

Our Hepatology clinic does Fibroscan's in office.

The MA's have been trained by the company/manufacturer of the machine.

They are able to do the scan but not interpret it, of course. Interpretation by a licensed provider only.  When asked this same question a few years ago when we started doing them in our clinic. Does not need to be completed by a licensed professional.

There may be variation form state to state. Would be best to assure with your state.

    Hope this helps.
