I am a nurse manager for a 7-provider general neurology practice. I have 6 full time triage nurses with varying degrees of experience, from 0 years to more than 5 years in a triage role. I am developing a hybrid model for triage nursing both out of necessity and as a job satisfaction initiative for the nursing team. As my Director and I move forward in creating this model I am wondering if other ambulatory nurse leaders have such a model in place already and would be willing to share the details of their program with me.
Most specifically, I am curious what your inclusion criteria is for allowing a nurse to enter into remote work for part of each work week. I am considering things such as:
- background and experience in triage work
- time from onboarding
I am also wondering about what KPIs you may be monitoring both in terms of identifying readiness for a nurse to enter into the hybrid model and to monitor and measure their success when working from home. I am thinking about things such as:
- number of phone calls made/received each day
- number of messages completed/handled each day
I'm sure, though that there are eligibility criteria and KPIs of which I am not thinking. What do you use? And, do we know if there is an established standard by AAACN or similar?
Thank you for any insight you can provide!
