Implementing a new Training

  • 1.  Implementing a new Training

    Posted 10-28-2024 13:51

I work at a county hospital in Texas that has Community Health Clinics. I am interested in hearing feedback on implementing a new training for Epic inbasket or something similar and how the class structure looks (in person or virtual), who teaches it etc. This class would be for new hires including CMAs, LVNs, and RNs.

    Hello Erika,

We have a program for Epic In Basket as part of our clinical new-hire orientation. It is done virtually and is scheduled for 2 hours. We have a PowerPoint program and a scenario that new hires use during the session to complete a telephone encounter, refill encounter, and a result in the playground.

    Thank you,

    Hello Erika and Sharon-

Sharon would you be willing to share any of your orientation documents?  I work with 14 FQHC's and we are in the process of trying to revamp our onboarding process.   Any tips, tricks, ideas or thoughts would be most helpful for my team.  Thank you in advance!

Hi I have a specific question for Sharon R/T telephone results calls documentation in EPIC.

Do your RN's click on the telephone icon to create the thread/encounter or do they document within the results notes?

I click on the telephone icon. I was assured by the RN who teaches for our organization that I am documenting correctly.

My manager insists that we are supposed to document within the results notes.

It has become a major issue for me.

I appreciate your input as well as anyone else out there.

BTW I met up with the EPIC vendor at the Chicago conference in April and he also confirmed that I am documenting the telephone results call properly in EPIC.

    Hello Karen,

It can technically be done either way. We have some offices where the providers put the results in a telephone encounter to assist with messages and return calls, as our non-clinical staff cannot see the results in basket. Labs and diagnostic imaging can be ordered in result management, but current medications cannot be renewed, causing the need to open a telephone call. I think it depends on the situation.

    Thank you,
