Hello Isabel,
These visits would be billed under 99211. The 99211 code is often used for activities such as taking a patient's blood pressure, administering vaccines or medications, providing brief health education, or handling other simple, routine tasks. If a provider pops in, then this would be a different billing code. According to CSM, for prolonged office or outpatient E/M visits, healthcare providers should use HCPCS add-on code G2212.

Great question! I wanted to add and see how these visits are being billed. Is everything going under 99211 or do you have a provider pop in? 45 mins for a nurse visit seems like it should be billed differently, although, I am not sure through CMS it can.

We are looking at our RN visit calendars and trying to determine the best utilization of time. For your institutions, do you have a set length of time for an RN visit? For example: Annual Wellness Visits- 30 minutes, Well Child Visit- 45 minutes, HTN with education- 45 minutes......Do these correlate with what others are doing? How did you decide on the timing of the visits to ensure a quality visit? And, do you include any non-visit care time between visits?
