    Hello,

I would like to ask if anyone else is using nitrous in their ambulatory sites and what your nursing documentation looks like, VS, etc and if you utilize a monitoring system in the air to keep your team safe from exposure? Any thoughts are appreciated.

    Becky

    Hello,

At SIU Medicine we use Nitrous for dental procedures and urology procedures. Our documentation consists of VS including BP, HR, RR and O2 sat before the nitrous and every 5 minutes while nitrous is being used. After the Nitrous is discontinued we monitor for 10 minutes post procedure for any adverse reactions or side effects and one set of vitals about half way through observation. We only use nitrous with a scavenger system and have utilized nitrous badge systems to monitor exposure. For precautions we do not allow pregnant staff to be in the room for nitrous procedures. Patients are evaluated for contraindications and it is self-administered by the patient after instructed on risks, benefits, alternatives and demonstrated learning. Hope this helps.

    Hi Michelle,

Is the nitrous used in pediatric ambulatory areas? Or only for adults?
