    Posted 07-28-2025 12:28

    Greetings!

Our education team is looking for opportunities to expand our virtual training and make it more interactive. Has anyone conducted virtual escape rooms? If so, would you be willing to share your material?

    Thank you!

    Hi Sharon,

How timely!  We are actually starting on drafting ideas on how to do an escape room for the care of an ambulatory patient; however it will be in person.  I would love to know how you plan to make this a virtual option.  May I also inquire what other virtual trainings you offer?  With our growing organization, it is becoming more challenging to do in person education.

    Thank you,

    Cindy

    Hello Cindy,

Our education team has created an escape room for vaccines. We are looking for out-of-the-box ideas. Our clinics are spread over 2 states. We're considering apps like Kahoot and Mentimeter to make our sessions more inclusive, covering all our clinics, including remote locations.

The majority of our training is virtual. Clinical new hire orientation, quarterly education, and some of our requested education training based on the needs. Our clinical new hire orientation includes case studies, clinical scenarios, annotation, and Jeopardy. We teach the staff to use Teams to share their screen, raise hand, and use emojis for interacting. We do have new hire in person skills weekly and staff are assigned a location to meet with one of our educators. We conduct in person educational site visits, and during the site visit, the educator will review the in person skills topics at that time.

Feel free to reach out if you have any questions, or if there's anything I can help with.

    Thank you,

    Hi Sharon

Just like everyone else, I'm also very interested in how your vaccine escape room works and would love to take a look at it if you're willing to share. We've created a couple of Kahoots on a free trial basis for a small group of nurses and have also used "Slides with Friends" for some interactive sessions. I'm not much help to you when it comes to virtual training, as we don't currently offer it.

    Hi Sharon,

I'm very interested in your in-person skills testing and quarterly education. I feel we have our orientation program set up well, but we lack yearly continuing education.  We are fully remote, but all of our nurses live within 2 hours of our designated touchdown location, so I would like to have at least yearly in-person education sessions.  Any information you can share would be greatly appreciated!

  • 27.  RE: Virtual Escape Rooms

    Posted 08-18-2025 10:08

    Hello Kim,

We begin planning for our annual in-person skills program in January. Topics are chosen based on questions, errors, and concerns that have arisen over the previous year. The topics are approved by clinical leadership, then we create the content. This year, we have three topics: blood pressure (correct cuff size and worksheet with blood pressure dial scenarios), medical emergency management (including Epinephrine kits and medication math scenarios), and patient transfers using the gait belt and transfer boards. Because our topics are for those who care for patients in the office, we do not require our 100% remote clinical staff to attend. We try to keep the topics generic enough, so they apply to all staff, no matter the specialty. There are 7 of us, and we utilize conference rooms across the system for annual skills training, with the goal of ensuring that no one has to travel more than 30 minutes to a location. We create courses in our Learning Management System, allowing staff to enroll themselves or managers to enroll their staff for a time and location that is most convenient. We started our annual skills training in June and will continue through the end of November. For the more remote locations, we will stay in the area and complete annual skills over a week.

Our quarterly education is 100% virtual. Topics are decided based on upcoming workflow changes or trending questions we receive from managers or leadership. We decide as a team on the topic, and then we take turns creating the content. We create scripting to ensure our message is consistent, no matter the instructor. We take turns teaching, with one backup monitoring the chat and handling any technical difficulties that may arise. Sessions are no longer than 30 minutes and are scheduled at different times around the lunch hour.

I hope this is helpful. Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Thank you,

    Hello Sharon,

I am interested in your escape room information if you are still able to share. shall20@kumc.edu

Also curious about your virtual training, we are able to manage all the new hire training in person, including a vaccine class. The struggle is with continued education of current staff. Our area is not super widespread but going to each location takes about 3-4 months based around new hire training. So obviously this does not allow for very many skills to reviewed.

    Thanks, Shelly

    Hello Sharon,

I would love to see your program for the virtual escape room. Our network is covering multiple sites of care and this sounds like a wonderful tool.

    Thank you,

    Hello Tammy,

The original post was an inquiry to see if anyone had incorporated virtual escape rooms into their program. We do have a vaccine escape room/box, that is meant for in-person use. I'd be more than happy to email the documents with you.

Please let me know if you have any questions.

    Thank you,

Good morning, Sharon! I would also be curious to see your in person vaccine escape room resources. I love escape rooms as an educational modality, but hadn't ever considered one for vaccine practices! My e-mail is alaina.strain@cookchildrens.org. Many thanks!

    Hello all,

I also would like to see how virtual escape rooms are held for nursing skills.  This is a wonderful option to assist nurses and supervisors to promote training.

    Thank you!
