  • 1.  Vitals prior to vaccinations

    Hello, am wondering if any primary care practices have standards regarding obtaining a full set of vital signs prior to any vaccine administration. I have done an online search and found some information from the CDC that they do not recommend doing so with the occasional exception for temp and the flu/covid vaccines. If you do have a protocol with some evidence to back it up, could you please share? Thank you!

    Hello Kimberly,

    We do not have a standard for vital signs before vaccine administration. We do perform a screening before vaccination, though, and ask patients if they have a mild or severe illness with or without a fever.

    Hi All,

    Same here at our FQHC, we do not do them for vaccine only visits. I've done vaccine training for years and have not come across doing pre-injection vitals as a recommendation.
