    Hello to my Colleagues,

Our organization gives Vivitrol to our patients, and we have run into a dilemma.  We are hiring LPN's into our organization, and are wondering if Vivitrol can be administered by a LPN.  Do any organizations have any protocols or policy on LPN's giving Vivitrol?  I would be very interested in seeing what you have done or hearing if this is a concern anywhere else.  Thank you for any information you can send my way.

    Kindly,

    Kristen Tatum, MSN, RN AMB-BC

    Hi Kristen,

Our organization does allow administration to be delegated to LPN's, but an RN must be present in the clinic and the patient must be under the supervision of an RN due to the need for complex education/assessment.

    Hope this helps!

You would have to check with your State Board to see if it falls within their scope of practice.  In California LVN/LPN can administer vivitrol.
