    Posted 05-13-2023 10:04

"Medical Assistants" can NOT perform x-rays. Medical assistants are not allowed to perform diagnostic procedures; Radiographic imaging is not a TASK to be delegated; it is a diagnostic procedure that requires the administration of ionizing radiation. If you are attached to a medical facility, please contact the legal department. If this is a private practice, you should look up the state regulations for radiology technicians. A radiology tech (radiographer) is a medical specialist. The educational requirements for the X-ray technician or a radiology technician require completing at a minimum, an associate degree in radiology technology.

There is an American Registry of Radiologic Technologists
    (ARRT).

Please review the URL below for your state regulations form the American Society of Radiologic Technologists at the following web address:

Typically, Medical Practice Acts provides broad delegation authority for physicians to delegate to APRNs, PAs, other licensed health care providers, and unlicensed health care personnel such as MAs. However, it is important to note that usually Nursing Practice Acts do not provide similar broad delegation authority for nurses at any level of licensure. While many APRNs work with unlicensed personnel in a variety of practice settings, their ability to delegate is limited to certain nursing tasks in accordance with their Board of Nursing's Registered Nurse Delegation Rules.  So no, in general, nursing could not be responsible for outcomes/supervisions of something that is not within the scope of nursing.
