We do not allow MA's to do this at WashU due to it being an assessment.

In Texas, a fundal height measurement is considered an assessment which is out of scope of practice for a MA.

Subject: MAs Performing Fundal Height Measurements
Hello,
We are gathering informationation on whether a MA can perform a fundal height measurement at other institutions.
Could you share with me if your MA's are allowed to perform this measurement and if so what process do you utilize for their education & to assure continued competency?
We are concerned that if this fundal height measurement is used as an assessment of the fetal growth, then MA's should not be performing this skill.
Your thoughts?
Thank you in advance for your responses.
