Mock Survey - Lidocaine documentation, topical agents, etc. -advice appreciated

    Hello,

We had a mock survey recently and had a finding we are inquiring about across other organizations:

How are clinics documenting Lido/EPI injections by LPN / RN as part of dermatology procedures?

How are clinics documenting anesthetic creams, EMLA -etc?

How are clinics assessing and re-assessing pain when patient is in for a short procedure?

    Best,

    Monica

    Hello Monica,

All of our medications are entered and scanned through the ambulatory MAR. This would include the lidocaine/epi and topical anesthetics, such as EMLA, that are administered by the nursing staff. For documenting of pain after a procedure, it depends on the department. Our primary care and the majority of specialty departments document the pain score in the Vital Signs section of our EMR. For our outpatient procedure sites, they have flowsheets they use for their procedural documentation, including post-procedure pain score.

    Thank you,
