Hello Maria!
I asked the same question when I was a hospital based Nursing Professional Development Specialist covering ambulatory clinics. Those ambulatory clinics were all hospital based departments and the difference there compared to the ambulatory clinics I'm responsible for now is that the hospital departments could all be surveyed by TJC when the hospital was surveyed. We needed to ensure that the nurses in those clinics were able to speak and perform the organizational processes for topics we knew TJC would be likely to survey based on past events or hot topics, including restraints and blood administration. We included both of those in our annual e-learning and in annual hands-on skill simulation training.
This all came full circle during COVID when some of those nurses were asked to help float to the inpatient areas and assist with transport or staffing. There was still definitely a need for just-in-time training and revalidation of skills since the annual training is enough for awareness.
All of that to ask- are the areas in question in any way under a situation like that where there is a risk of cross-coverage to be prepared for? Have you explored the Association for Nursing Professional Development crosswalk yet (located at https://www.aaacn.org/practice-resources/leadership/anpd-ambulatory-care-tabs)? I don't think it calls out restraints specifically but does provide the NPD standard for how to address things upon hire vs annually for different regulatory groups we encounter.
