Let's get right to it! Who actually loves writing their own personal proficiency? Whose great idea was this? I see a lot of heart ache with my peers when this wonderful time of year comes around and even more so when they get that statement from the NPSB that they did not meet any criteria for promotion.
I had the pleasure recently to go to a conference with AFGE and met Dr. Jennifer Strawn, DNP with ONS that stated the NPSB was going away! She even stated that the board in Washington DC had already dismantled. This could be good, and this could be bad! She led on that evaluations would then stand with the supervisor/managers. The bad side, I am thinking, what if you don't get along with your manager and there is no one to dispute or appeal your evaluations? We were then told that all of this is still in the planning phases and "they" in Washington are working all of this out.
Well, here I am back in the real world and my proficiency is still expected of me soon. Is there anyone in our SIG that has the secrets to reveal of how to really make your proficiency shine and get that promotion/step/increase? Do you ever see anyone in your facility actually get promoted on their proficiency or is this one of the seven wonders of the VA? I am all about helping each other as nurses. I always want to see my peers go forward in their careers and make something better of themselves. I am certainly one that will not EAT MY YOUNG (some of you know exactly what I am talking about).
I am a member of NOVA (Nurses Organization of Veteran Affairs) and they have offered assistance in writing these to their members, however it is power point slides with examples that I have used in my proficiencies in the past to no avail.
Let me hear your thoughts. Please share any verbiage they may help. I will be glad to share my previous proficiencies in order to help us all!
